The Toxic Tours expose the aggressive expansion of the oil and petrochemical industry, and the pollution and injustice this plastic production generates. The plastics industry is contributing to climate destruction and is destroying the health and futures of frontline communities around the globe. We cannot allow this to continue. A global treaty on plastics, that includes capping production, is needed.

We are calling for a legally binding global instrument on plastic pollution covering measures along the entire life cycle of plastics, including extraction of feedstocks, production, transport, use, disposal, and remediation.

French oil giant Total and the China National Offshore Oil Corporation are on the cusp of building a massive crude oil pipeline right through the heart of Africa – displacing communities, endangering wildlife and tipping the world closer to full-blown climate catastrophe.
The East African Crude Oil Pipeline needs to be stopped and we have a plan to do exactly that.

STOP FUNDING ENVIRONMENTAL RACISM

IN THE UNITED STATES

Formosa Plastics is trying to build a mega-petrochemical complex (the “Sunshine Project”) in St. James, Louisiana. The residents of St. James Parish — a majority of whom are black and live near these plants — suffer from cancer rates that are 50 times higher than the national average. Tell Bank of America to publicly pledge to not fund the Sunshine project. Sign and share the petition from RISE St. James and Friends Of the Earth.

POLICY ACTIONS

The United States is the world’s largest producer and exporter of plastic waste and bears an outsize responsibility in driving solutions to the plastic pollution crisis. With United Nations Environment Assembly’s recent mandate for a global plastic treaty that addresses the full life cycle of plastic, the U.S. can play its part by passing the federal Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act.

The BFFPPA is the most comprehensive set of policy solutions to the plastic pollution crisis ever introduced in Congress, building on successful statewide laws across the U.S. to reduce throwaway plastics, establish producer responsibility, pause petrochemical buildout or expansion, and combat false industry-driven solutions like incineration.
